Minister of Commerce and Industry H.E. Mr. Piyush Goyal concludes his visit to Qatar

H.E. Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry (CIM) of India concluded his visit to Qatar from October 5-7, 2025 today evening. CIM paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on October 7. CIM co-Chaired the meeting of Joint Commission on Economic and Commercial Cooperation with H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry on October 6. Both Ministers also addressed the inaugural meeting of the Joint Business Council (JBC) which is co-chaired by Qatar Chamber and FICCI.
2. During the visit, CIM met H.E. Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of QCB and Chairman of QIA on October 6. CIM also met CEOs of top Qatari economic and commercial institutions including Qatar Airways, Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Free Zones Authority, Qatar National Bank and Qatar Development Bank. CIM interacted with several Qatari businessmen during the JBC and a luncheon meeting hosted by Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA).
3. During the courtesy call on H.E. Qatar PM/FM, CIM conveyed the greetings of PM Modi. Both sides expressed their commitment to advancing trade and investment cooperation under the strategic partnership between India and Qatar as decided during the State Visit of H.H. Amir of State of Qatar to India.
4. During the Joint Commission Meeting on Economic and Commercial Cooperation, both sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral trade and investment ties. They agreed to intensify efforts towards achieving the targets set during the visit of H.H. Amir to India including doubling bilateral trade by 2030 and launching FTA negotiations. Both leaders encouraged businesses on both sides to build on the strategic partnership and cultural connect between the two countries to further strengthen economic ties. CIM emphasized that the robust nature of both economies offers greater synergies across various sectors for shared growth and prosperity.
5. In the meeting between CIM and H.E. Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani, both sides discussed enhancing financial cooperation. CIM discussed various sectors for investment opportunities in India with QIA CEO. Both sides reiterated their commitment for the target of USD 10 billion investment from Qatar to India as well as opening of QIA office in India.
6. CIM also met with a cross section of Indian businesses, professionals and the members of the Indian community and attended launch ceremony of India’s UPI payments system in Qatar organized at a Lulu supermarket. During the visit, CIM was accompanied by a large business delegation from FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM, who held separate meetings with officials of top Qatari organizations including Qatar Free Zone Authority, Invest Qatar, Qatar Science and Technology Park etc exploring avenues for collaboration and joint ventures in various sectors including manufacturing, technology and innovation.
7. The visit of India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry is expected to pave the way for greater collaborations among businesses between India and Qatar and joint efforts towards deepening of economic partnership between the two countries.
