The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), apex organisation of socio-cultural associations of the large, diverse, accomplished and highly regarded Indian community in the State of Qatar, functioning under the aegis of Embassy of India, Doha, is organising the 3rd edition of ‘A Passage to India’ Community Festival at Museum of Islamic Art [MIA] Park on 14-15 April, 2016 with the Embassy’s wholehearted support and cooperation.
Significantly, this event will be inaugurated on the 125th Birth Anniversary of one of India’s greatest sons, the late Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of India, and will feature a special pavilion on him.
The Embassy and the ICC are grateful to Qatar Museums, under the inspirational leadership of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson, Qatar Museums for their overwhelming guidance, support and cooperation in organising this highly popular Community Festival, the first edition of which was held at the same venue in November, 2013 – the second edition was held at KATARA in March, 2015. The Embassy and the ICC also deeply appreciate the support of several other organisations for this unique festival showcasing both India’s rich cultural diversity as well as strides made in various spheres.
‘A Passage to India’ is being held as a public event from 4 PM – 10 PM on Thursday, 14 April and from 1 PM – 10 PM on Friday, 15 April, 2016. The Festival will feature several pavilions and other attractions including Yoga; arts and handicrafts; multimedia presentations; various music and dance performances; and diverse and delicious Indian cuisine.
Among special attractions at ‘A Passage to India’ would be performances of Kalbelia folk dance from the State of Rajasthan by a renowned group of artistes led by Ms. Supki, sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India, and huge models ofMangalyaan (India’s Mission to Mars) and Indian Railways built by Indian artisans.
‘A Passage to India’ celebrates the deep-rooted ties of friendship and the multi-dimensional and growing cooperation between India and Qatar. It fosters goodwill and friendship among diverse expatriate communities represented in Qatar. As on earlier occasions, the Festival would attract thousands of people, including Qatari and expatriate communities.
